PRESS RELEASE
JULY 2009
The Melbourne Crusaders Scooter Club and the Fifty Nine Motorcycle Club Inc., will together host the Mods v Rockers day on Sunday the 25th October 2009, a joint initiative of a scooter & motorcycle club working together to raise money for the Australian charity Oz Child.
The day will commence at Brighton Beach in Melbourne, where motorcycles and scooters will meet and riders will breakfast together, after which there will be the opportunity to take photographs of motorcycles, scooters and their riders.
The Mods v Rockers day will be a retrospective look at the long surviving tradition of scootering and motorcycling and the old rivalries of Mods (scooters) and Rockers (motorcycles) of the 1960’s.
The tradition of rivalry between Mods and Rockers is a long and well established one which commenced in the 1960s’ and will be recreated with a mock skirmish on Brighton Beach (this time Melbourne, not the UK). Then in the modern tradition of two wheel co-operation with all riders sharing the road together, scooters and motorcycles will ride together, it is anticipated there will be 100 - 150 scooters and motorcycles on the ride.
The ride from Brighton will leave at 12.30pm destination the Kustom Lane Gallery in Luton Lane, Hawthorn, to view the “Bigger then Bette” exhibition of art and pinup culture from past and present. There will be a BBQ, a band, DJ’s and a great opportunity for scooterists and motorcyclists to socialise.
Admission to the Gallery will be $10, which will include a free BBQ, all money taken will be donated to the charity Oz Child. There will also be a raffle and other prizes donated by sponsors, including free copies of the Scooter and Two Wheels magazines kindly donated by NEWS MAGAZINES.
This charity raising event promotes both scootering and motorcycling. It demonstrates how riders of all types of two wheel vehicles are today willing to work together in order to make the roads a safer place for everyone on two wheels. We hope you might join us on the day, sponsors and those willing to help are encouraged to make contact at either of the above addresses or associated contact numbers.
Yours,
