The Australian Scooter Federation (ASF) Objectives are:
· Motorized Scooters to be included in Government transport policies as a legitimate form of transport.
· Abiding by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industry Code of Conduct and ensuring it’s compliance throughout the ASF Members National Dealer Network.
· ASF to be recognized as the peak industry body for scooters and that government makes use of ASF in a consultative role.
· ASF to provide advocacy to Government on registration, licensing and safety related issues.
· Communicate that the ASF is a responsible and self regulating body.
· Motor scooters, although currently legislated as motorcycles, are a distinctive category separate from motorcycles in terms of their needs and applications.
· Motor scooters provide a legitimate transport solution that answers community issues and needs such as economical transportation, traffic congestion, low emissions, low fuel consumption, small environmental footprint.
· Long regarded as a sensible transport solution throughout the world due to many benefits including reduced parking requirements.
· Growing the market in a controlled and supervised manner
· Provision of website to communicate all objectives.
· Rider Education
- Provide Scooter Safe Riding advice for all scooter users
o Development of Booklet and DVD including the following topics:
§ Hazard perception
§ Traffic etiquette
§ Appropriate attire
§ Maintenance tips
§ Appropriate use and limitations
